Course Description: What is Video Arts all about?
Video Arts is an art class that builds on the fundamental principles of design with an emphasis on video production created with Adobe Premier Pro. Video is part of our everyday life in advertising, television, movies and more.  Students will be using Premier Pro to create videos with different themes such as horror or comedy, different styles such as stop motion and projects for school or community use.  Students will be using problems solving skill to create short films for real world situations.  Class time will be used to work independently on projects, however at times out of class time will be required to complete reading and sketchbook assignments, or occasional shooting assignments.

Class Expectations
·         Be Prompt:  Excessive tardies will result in Saturday school and a truancy notice.
·         Be Prepared:  Always have a notebook and pencil for class and any completed homework.
·         Be Neat: Put your equipment away away at the end of each class period and clean up your area.
·         Be Respectful: Listen and follow instructions carefully, raise your hand for help, or questions.  Your classmates may also be helpful.  Use appropriate language, do not interrupt, etc.  Allow your classmates to work in a quiet environment, especially is they are filming or reviewing footage.  Cell phones must be kept off and out of sight or they will be given to the office.
·         Be Productive:  Stay on task during class, complete the daily tasks given to the BEST of your ability.  When finished with the current assignment, use this time to work your own designs or design for one of the many competitions on the class blog.
How will my grade be calculated?
80%………………Video Projects
20%………………Samples, Exercises

How will work be graded?
Students will be graded on the completion of requirements for a project and the amount of effort put into the work, not on artistic ability.  Different measures of assessment will be used throughout the nine weeks.  Critiques, criteria checklists, self-evaluations, and rubrics will be used to assess projects.
*Design Elements and Principles, use of lab time and Craftsmanship will be graded for every project.

How do I make up missing or incomplete work?
Since most work is done in class, I strongly encourage students to miss as little class as possible.  Late or incomplete work may be submitted during the same grade period for full credit.  For every excused absence day, you will have one school day to make up work without a reduction in grade.  Outside filming will be required if too many days are missed.  If you do not turn in a project, it will receive an F in the grade period average. Late projects will NOT be accepted after the end of the grading period.
What if I am late to class?
When you arrive late to class, put your pass on the teacher desk, and WITHOUT DISRUPTING CLASS, quietly find your seat.  After 2 tardies you will receive a detention.  4 or more tardies will result in a referral to the office.   Make every effort to be on time.

What if I am not following directions in class?
-    verbal warning -     parent contact
-     seat change/isolation -     one on one conference with Teacher
-     loss of computer privilege -     office referral -     seconds owed after the bell
What happens when the bell rings?
I will dismiss you from class, not the bell.  A clean up bell will signal the beginning of the last 5 minutes of class.  Class will be dismissed ONLY when every work area is clean, materials and equipment are returned to their proper place and every student is quiet and seated.

For the first offense, you may receive the phone back at the end of the period. The second time the phone will be held in my office until the end of the school day, and can be picked up by the student after the last bell of the school day. After the third offense, it will be taken to the office. A discipline referral will be made in skyward after each offense. A detention assigned with me after the second offense. If you do not give the cell phone to the teacher or aide, it is considered insubordination and you will receive an immediate discipline referral with detentions assigned for inappropriate device usage AND insubordination.

    • Unless permission is granted, pictures, snap chats, or videos of other individuals, teachers, or aides will not be allowed.
    • No texting is allowed, unless permission granted from a teacher or aide. EVEN FROM YOUR PARENTS. If it is an emergency, they need to call the main office so that proper protocol may be followed. Students may check cell phones in between classes. If you have a family emergency, please speak with your teacher.
    • YOUR BEST BET IS TO LEAVE YOUR DEVICE IN YOUR LOCKER!!!!
