Types of Film Trailers

Theatrical Trailer
  • Maximum length of two and a half minutes.
  • Usually cut from the first cut of the picture.
  • Can be cut from all the shot footage if there is no first cut yet.
Teaser Trailer
  • Usually not longer than a minute and a half.
  • Cut from a few takes and scenes while the picture is still being shot.
TV Spot
  • 15, 30 or 60 seconds in length.
  • Usually don't have mush to do with the theatrical trailer.
  • Produced separately from the theatrical campaign.
  • Usually use different music from the theatrical trailer
DVD Trailer
  • Usually the same as the regular theatrical trailer, but may contain alternate or rejected scenes.

Visual Effect that can be done through Premiere-
Blur & Sharpen
-Camera Blur - Gaussian Blur - Camera Blur - Sharpen - Blending
Color - *this can be done with an adjustment layer and applied quickly
-contrast : lights and darks
-balance : saturation
-Luma Curve : brightness and contrast of clip
Lighting
-lens flare : refraction from the bright light into a camera
-lightning effect : has start and end points and segments
-strobe lighting
Magnifying
Mirror Effect - reflection and symmetry
Turbulent Displacement - think water, moving into a dream, earthquake effect, flags, funhouse mirrors
Color Key Effect - think 'ability to green screen'
When you key out a color value in a clip, that color or range of colors becomes transparent for the entire clip. Control the range of transparent colors by adjusting the tolerance level. You can also feather the edges of the transparent area to create a smooth transition between the transparent and opaque areas.

Grading and Feedback
I'm finding I'm writing a lot for you so please be patient with me and your walking video grades.  When it comes to video eval and feedback I try to be as clear and specific as possible.  I also talk about different elements and principles of art-
Like:  Unity.  Color.  Repetition.  Space.  Movement.  Rhythm.
Take the feedback and reflect on it as you move into your next video.

Expectations - Script writing needs to be in by Friday.  Email or Write it out and I will take a picture of it.
There needs to be video footage ready to begin editing come Monday.
This video has some exercises with it - we will review them NOW.

Also today - more with sound effects and FOLEY
